Enable Check Images in Wells Fargo Statements

By default, Wells Fargo statement PDFs don't include check images. For clients who pay by check, this means those transactions arrive in Propio without images attached. The fix is simple: the client requests Bulk File Code K to be added to their account — a one-time setup that embeds check images in all future statement PDFs retrieved via Plaid.

This takes about 5 minutes for the client to request and takes effect on their next statement cycle.

Before You Start

  • This step is done by the client, not by you. As the accountant, your job is to send them this guide or walk them through the call.
  • This works for personal accounts and retail (small business) accounts. If your client has a commercial account, see the Commercial Accounts section below.
  • The client must be the account holder or an authorized representative to request this change.

Steps

Option A — Call Wells Fargo

This is the fastest path. The client calls the appropriate number below and asks to have Bulk File Code K added to their account.

Suggested script for the client:

"I'd like to add Bulk File Code K to my account so that check images are included in my monthly statement PDF."

Personal account holders:

Option B — Visit a Branch

If the client prefers in-person or can't get through by phone, any Wells Fargo branch can process this request. They should ask a banker to add Bulk File Code K to their account to include check images in their statement PDF.

What Happens Next

  • The change takes effect on the next statement cycle — it won't apply retroactively to previous statements.
  • Once active, check images will be embedded in the statement PDF and will appear in Propio automatically the next time the account syncs or a new statement is imported.
  • No action is needed in Propio — the images will arrive as part of the statement.

Commercial Accounts

For clients with Wells Fargo commercial accounts, the Bulk File Code K flag may not be available — some treasury services and fraud protection configurations block it. Commercial accounts also require a separate conversion process with associated fees.

If your client has a commercial account and needs check images:

Most small business clients are on retail accounts, where this process works reliably. If you're unsure which account type your client has, they can confirm with Wells Fargo when they call.

Tips

💡 Send the script. Clients do better when they know exactly what to say before calling. Forward them the suggested script above before they call — it reduces the chance of the rep not understanding the request.

💡 This is a one-time setup. Once Bulk File Code K is active on the account, check images will be included in every future statement automatically — no repeat action needed.

Common Issues

The client called but the rep didn't recognize "Bulk File Code K."
Ask them to try again or visit a branch. Using the exact phrase — "Bulk File Code K" — is important. If a phone rep is unfamiliar, a branch banker or small business specialist is more likely to know how to process it.

Check images still aren't showing after the next statement.
Confirm the request was processed and the code is active on the account. If the setup was confirmed but images still aren't appearing, contact Propio support — the issue may be on the import side.
